AIREY'S INLET

A massive rammed earth wall, 400mm thick, provides a spine down the centre of this house. This absorbs the sun's heat thru the north facing windows and roof-lights, keeping the temperature moderate during the day and releasing the stored heat at night. And, according to the owners it is very comfortable. The rainwater is collected via a central gutter, running as an elevated galvanised steel aqueduct, which spills into the tanks. The galvanised cladding has faded and nestles into the coastal bush very well.
